Microneedling
with PRP in Oakland
Want smoother, firmer skin without surgery or aggressive resurfacing? Microneedling with PRP, sometimes called a vampire facial, works beneath the surface to stimulate collagen and elastin renewal while using platelet-rich plasma from your own blood to support your skin’s natural renewal process. I ❤️ this place! I’ve gotten microneedling done with Jordan and facials + a lash lift with Amanda. Jordan gave me a lot of info and recommendations for taking care of my skin during my session which I appreciated a lot. She never tried to upsell me on anything which I appreciated

I’m glad I found this location, Karen A was very professional and knowledgeable for my microneedling appointment. Skincare can sometimes be uncomfortable for me because of how invasive it is, but she made it as painless and thorough as possible. I would recommend booking with her, I had a good experience.

The staff is very welcoming and kind. Annie S did my microneedling and aerolase laser, and she explained the procedure very well before we started so I felt totally comfortable. There wasn’t too much discomfort and I’ve noticed an improvement in skin redness and texture. Definitely recommend Mosaic skin studio to anyone looking for a skin treatment in the Bay Area!

Am I a candidate for microneedling with PRP?
The best way to know is to have your skin evaluated in person. You may be a good candidate if you:
Have atrophic acne scarring
Want to improve uneven texture or enlarged pores
Are noticing early fine lines
Want a non-surgical, non-injectable option with limited downtime
Prefer a regenerative approach using your own biology
Want ongoing collagen support or maintenance
Are in generally good health and comfortable with a routine blood draw
When might we recommend waiting?
Treatment may need to be postponed, or another option may make more sense if you:
Have an active skin injury, infection or open wound
Have moderate-to-severe inflammatory acne in the treatment area
Have certain bleeding or platelet disorders
Take blood-thinning medication that cannot be paused
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have a history of keloid scarring on the face or neck.
Have recently used isotretinoin
Have had radiation or a history of skin cancer in the treatment area
Are currently experiencing a melasma flare
If microneedling with PRP is not the right option, that does not mean there are no options. We can discuss other treatments available at Mosaic and help determine what fits your skin.
What you should know
-
Prep before your treatment is easy.
Give your skin a break from actives. Pause retinol, retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, and other potentially irritating products about 3 to 5 days before your appointment.
Avoid aggressive treatments. Skip waxing, laser treatments, depilatory creams, or other intensive treatments on the area for about one week.
Protect your skin from the sun. Avoid tanning, sunburn, and heavy sun exposure leading up to treatment.
Keep us updated. Let us know about medications, supplements, or a history of cold sores so we can make sure your treatment plan is appropriate for you.
Come with clean skin. On the day of your appointment, simply come to our clinic free of makeup, lotions, oils, or other products in the treatment area.
We’ll walk you through anything else you need to know before your visit.
-
We’ll start by cleansing and numbing your skin. A topical numbing cream is applied for about 20-30 minutes to help keep the treatment comfortable.
A small blood sample is collected. Your blood is processed to separate the platelet-rich plasma that will be used during treatment.
Microneedling begins. A handheld device with fine needles creates controlled microchannels in the skin. You may feel light pressure, scratching, or vibration as we work across the treatment area.
Your PRP is applied, reaching deeper layers than any topical product due to the microchannels present. Your platelet-rich plasma is applied to the treated skin during and/or after the microneedling portion based on your provider’s protocol.
We’ll finish with personalized aftercare. Before you leave, we’ll make sure you know exactly how to care for your skin at home.
Your provider will adjust the treatment based on your skin, comfort level, and goals throughout your visit.

Most patients experience mild redness, warmth, or sensitivity for a few days, similar to a light sunburn. Your skin may feel slightly tight or rough, and light flaking can occur as the surface renews. These effects are temporary and usually settle gradually over the first several days.
During recovery:
You will not be able to apply make up or sunscreen for 24 hours. Plan accordingly.
Use gentle products until you are fully healed (after 3-5 days)
Avoid scrubs, acids, retinoids, and other active products until fully healed (3-5 days).
Do not pick or exfoliate flaking skin
Avoid intense workouts, excessive heat, saunas, and swimming while skin is irritated
Protect your skin from direct sun exposure.
We may recommend hydrocortisone cream for excessive itchiness, redness, or inflammation.
Sun protection after the first 24 hours is especially important for skin that is prone to hyperpigmentation. We’ll also send you a more detailed aftercare guide, so you’ll have everything you need to support your skin as it heals.
The results timeline
Your skin won’t change overnight, but it keeps improving well after your appointment as collagen production continues.
Immediate glow
Days 1–7
Redness and sensitivity begin to settle, and your skin may start to look smoother, brighter, and more refreshed. Scars may soften after being broken up by the needling.
Changes you can start to see
Weeks 2–4
Texture may feel smoother, pores can look more refined, and your skin may start to look more even overall.
Even texture + tone
Months 3–6
Your skin can continue improving for months after treatment as collagen remodeling continues beneath the surface.
Collagen skin remodeling
Months 2–4
As collagen continues to build, you may notice more visible changes in acne scars, fine lines, texture, and firmness.
Most patients see the best improvement with a series of 3–6 treatments spaced about 4–6 weeks apart, but there’s no one-size-fits-all number. Deeper acne scarring may take more sessions, while someone focused on texture, glow, or maintenance may need fewer.
Our job is to help you find that sweet spot. We’ll look at how your skin responds, adjust as needed, and guide you on when maintenance makes sense so you’re not left guessing about what comes next.

More ways we use PRP
Microneedling with PRP is not the only regenerative treatment available at Mosaic.
Depending on what you want to improve, we may also discuss Derma PRP as part of your treatment plan.
Derma PRP is another regenerative option created from platelet-rich plasma.
It is designed to provide tissue support while proteins and growth factors from your own blood work within the treated area over time.

Microneedling with PRP, sometimes called a vampire facial, is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that combines microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared from your own blood. Microneedling creates controlled microchannels that stimulate collagen and elastin production, while PRP provides concentrated platelets and naturally occurring growth factors that support the skin’s healing and renewal process. It is commonly used to improve the appearance of acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven texture, tone, and overall skin quality.
-
Yes. Microneedling is considered a minimally invasive treatment and can be safely used across skin tones when it’s performed appropriately by a trained provider. At Mosaic, we adjust the treatment based on your skin, concerns, and history rather than using the same approach for everyone. Temporary redness, sensitivity, or swelling can happen after treatment, and less common risks include bruising, infection, or scarring.
Your safety starts with choosing the right treatment for your skin, and if we don’t think microneedling is a good fit for you, we’ll tell you.
-
We apply topical numbing cream before treatment to help keep you comfortable. You may feel light pressure, vibration, or a scratching sensation as we work across the skin, but we’ll check in with you throughout your treatment and adjust when needed.
-
Microneedling encourages your skin to repair and build new collagen. PRP adds concentrated platelets and naturally occurring growth factors from your own blood to support that renewal process. Together, they give us a regenerative approach to improving skin quality without heat or chemical resurfacing.
-
Yes and no. Collagen built during a treatment series persists, but your skin continues to age, so results are maintained rather than permanent. Think of it as a burst of collagen growth or going to the dentist to maintain your teeth as our tissues decline over time. Most patients return for periodic maintenance sessions to keep regeneration going.
-
Expect some redness, warmth, tightness, or sensitivity after treatment, similar to a mild sunburn. Most patients have mild redness and sensitivity for a few days, sometimes with light flaking around days three to five. Avoiding harsh chemicals and sun damage during the healing window are essential.
-
A peer-reviewed narrative review found microneedling to be generally very safe across Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI, unlike deep chemical peels, which the same review recommends avoiding in darker skin. Safety depends on technique: conservative needle depth, fewer passes, and careful aftercare reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. One of our licensed providers will assess your skin tone, pigment history, and sensitivity before treatment, then customize your protocol based on what is safest and most appropriate for your skin.
-
At Mosaic, we recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding before scheduling microneedling with PRP. One of our providers can help you plan the right timing and discuss alternatives in the meantime.
